About the course

The Master of Diplomacy develops professional capabilities for work in international affairs and diplomatic practice. Taught by specialist scholars in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs, the program blends theory and real-world skills, with opportunities to engage with senior diplomats and policy practitioners. Students complete core courses in diplomacy and negotiation, then tailor study through electives across regional, international and language studies. This is a one-year full-time master’s in international relations/diplomacy.

What you might learn

Students build advanced knowledge of diplomatic practice, international relations and policy environments, with a focus on applied skills. The program emphasises negotiation, conflict resolution, contemporary diplomatic challenges and the role of state and non-state actors. Through electives and a possible research project or internship, students strengthen analytical writing, policy briefing and communication skills, and develop cultural and regional awareness to operate effectively in complex international settings. This is master’s-level training in diplomacy and international affairs.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles in diplomacy, foreign affairs and international policy across government, multilateral organisations, NGOs and the private sector. Potential pathways include diplomatic or consular work, policy analysis, international development, security and peacebuilding, advocacy, and program or stakeholder management in globally focused organisations. The degree also supports career advancement for professionals working with international partners or cross-border issues. This is a master’s qualification aimed at careers in diplomacy and international relations.
