Should I do a Masters?

Should I Do A Masters Degree

1. Understanding the demands of your field of study

Are you passionate about your current field of study? If your answer is yes then you should definitely pursue a Masters degree! It gives you the opportunity to further your knowledge and specialize in a topic that interests you. if you pursue the subject at a Masters level.

However, if you’re bored with your current job or degree, Masters can also be an awesome opportunity for you to study an unrelated subject. The content covered in 1 or 2 years is equivalent to a 3 year degree or even more in depth.

Do note that some courses, such as Architecture and Psychology, can only give you professional accreditation if you pursue the subject at a Masters level.

2. Network, network, network!

“Your network is your net worth” this is a popular saying among many business professionals.

Many Masters programs have social activities on offer for students, allowing you to engage with the industry before going back into the workforce again. Other than the chance to get job opportunities, you may receive helpful advice from your “seniors” as well.

Even if you do not intend to stay in that country which you pursue your Masters in, building international connections will be very beneficial in the future. After all, there are many “unspoken rules” in the workforce and any additional information you receive from networking would be able to give you a head start.

3. Now or Later?

Are you clear of your goals and targets?

If you have just finished your Bachelor’s and are feeling a little confused, studying a Master’s degree can help you to develop an overall understanding of the area you are pursuing and thus, the goals that you hope to achieve in your career. You will also return to your job with more knowledge and fresh motivation to accelerate your career.

Want to switch careers?

Many undergraduates realize that the subject they loved when they were younger is not aligned with what they have planned in the long-term. According to the Higher Education Funding Council for England, around 40% of people transitioning to postgraduate study pursue a different subject area and undergo a postgraduate certificate to meet the entry requirements.

Postgraduate study is an opportunity for students to reboot your career and rethink what goals you have in mind for the long term. If you’re ready to take the plunge, begin your search for a Masters degree with AUG today.
