About the course
Deakin’s Doctor of Philosophy (Engineering) is a higher degree by research where you develop and conduct an original engineering research project under the guidance of an experienced academic supervisor (with associate supervisors as needed). You will meet participation/attendance requirements as applicable and produce a thesis presenting your research outcomes. The degree can be undertaken on campus or online and is typically completed over full- or part-time equivalent study in engineering.
Career outcome
Graduates build advanced research capability for engineering-focused careers in academia, industry and government. The program develops expertise in designing and executing original investigations, analysing complex technical problems and communicating findings through a substantial thesis. Outcomes can include roles such as research engineer, R&D specialist, engineering consultant, academic researcher or technical leader in innovation-driven organisations. This is a PhD by research in engineering. Preparing graduates for engineering innovation, industrial research, and doctoral study.
