About the course
The Master of Diplomacy is a one-year graduate degree focused on the practice of international affairs and professional diplomatic work. You learn from internationally recognised scholars in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs and may engage with senior diplomats. The program combines core training with a wide range of electives across regional, international and language studies, supporting both breadth and depth in advanced study in diplomacy. The programme develops advanced psychological assessment, intervention planning, and evidence-based practice for professional settings.
What you might learn
Students develop practical and analytical capabilities for contemporary diplomatic practice, including negotiation, conflict resolution and transnational diplomacy. The degree builds understanding of international relations in real-world settings, policy and strategic contexts, and the role of state and non-state actors. Electives and a possible research project allow you to deepen expertise in regional issues, development, security, and related language or area studies relevant to diplomatic work.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for professional roles in diplomacy and international affairs across government and non-government settings. Career directions include foreign service and public sector policy roles, international organisations, development agencies, security and strategic policy work, and advisory roles in NGOs or think tanks. The program also supports careers requiring advanced negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills in global and regional contexts as a Masters qualification in diplomacy.
