About the course
This Indigenous enabling course is a one-year pathway designed to support Indigenous students to enter Curtin health degrees, including allied health, nursing and medicine. You’ll build confidence and study readiness in a culturally appropriate environment while completing foundation subjects in health sciences, chemistry, mathematics, academic literacy and study skills. Selected units may provide credit toward some Curtin undergraduate health degrees. This is a Foundation Studies course in Health Sciences.
What you might learn
You’ll develop foundational medical and scientific knowledge and build independent learning skills. You’ll learn to critically reflect on health issues, locate and evaluate information using technology, and communicate effectively in diverse settings. The course emphasises culturally competent, ethical and professional practice, including respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and working collaboratively or independently. This is Foundation Studies learning for Health Sciences.
Career outcome
On completion, you’ll be prepared to apply for a range of Curtin health-related degrees, including allied health, nursing and medicine pathways, with improved academic readiness and confidence for university study. The course supports development of study, communication and information-literacy skills relevant to health settings, helping you progress toward roles across healthcare and community health sectors through further undergraduate study. This is a Foundation Studies pathway in Health Sciences. Supporting progression into undergraduate Nursing and Health Sciences degree programmes.
