About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Critical Care Nursing is designed to expand the scope of practice for registered nurses by building advanced knowledge, specialist skills and core competencies for critical care settings. It draws on current evidence-based practice for the care and management of critically ill patients and develops capability to plan, implement and evaluate care in high-pressure environments. The course is aligned with Australian College of Critical Care Nurses Practice Standards and is delivered in a blended model with hands-on, work-integrated learning.
What you might learn
Students develop advanced critical care competencies grounded in evidence-based nursing practice, including assessment, clinical decision-making and evaluation of complex care. The course builds analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills to manage the care of critically ill patients and support families in critical care contexts. It also develops the ability to analyse and critique specialist nursing care delivery within contemporary healthcare systems and standards.
Career outcome
Graduates can progress as critical care registered nurses providing care to high-dependency and critically ill patients in acute hospital environments. The qualification supports roles within multidisciplinary critical care teams and helps broaden clinical scope into specialist units such as intensive care and other critical care services. It may also strengthen pathways toward further postgraduate nursing study and advanced practice responsibilities within critical care settings.
