About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Cancer Nursing develops specialised skills for providing comprehensive cancer care within multidisciplinary teams. Designed for part-time study over 12 months, it combines flexible online learning with immersive clinical learning and clinical competency assessment at the student’s employing healthcare service. The learning outcomes are aligned with national standards, including the National Cancer Nursing Education Project (EdCaN) standards.
What you might learn
Students build a sound understanding of cancer nursing theory and scientific advances underpinning comprehensive cancer care and management. The course develops the ability to apply evidence-based and scientific approaches to clinical practice, including caring for patients with complex needs. It also strengthens clinical competency through work-integrated learning and assessed clinical skills development in the workplace.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to specialise in cancer nursing roles within hospitals and cancer care services, working as part of multidisciplinary oncology teams. The qualification supports progression into more advanced clinical practice in areas such as oncology wards, outpatient cancer services, chemotherapy/infusion settings, and related cancer care units. It can also provide a pathway to further postgraduate nursing study and advanced practice roles.
Entry requirements
This course is for Registered Nurses who are currently practising and looking to specialise in cancer nursing. Participants must be working a minimum of 24 hours (3 days) per week in an area of cancer care and be nominated by their employer to take part in the course.
