About the course
This one-year honours program provides an opportunity to undertake independent research focused on Asia or the Pacific within ANU’s College of Asia and the Pacific. You will draw on extensive expertise across the university and benefit from major university and national library collections. With close supervisory guidance and research training, the degree builds advanced understanding of the region and prepares you for further research study or professional roles.
What you might learn
You will develop advanced contextual knowledge of Asia-Pacific issues and undertake a substantial honours research project. The program emphasises research design and proposal development, critical analysis of sources, and strong academic writing. With expert supervision, you will refine disciplinary and language-related capabilities relevant to your thesis topic, and build skills in independent inquiry and communicating complex regional, cultural and historical perspectives.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for pathways into higher research degrees and roles that value deep Asia-Pacific expertise and research capability. Potential careers include policy and research roles in government and international organisations, analysis and advisory work in NGOs and think tanks, cultural and heritage organisations, education and publishing, and private-sector roles requiring regional knowledge. The honours year also supports progression toward academic or specialist research careers.
