About the course
This Doctor of Philosophy in Physics is a higher degree by research focused on producing a substantial original contribution to knowledge through independent investigation. You will work closely with supervisors, develop advanced theoretical and conceptual expertise, and complete a thesis as the major component of the program. Curtin supports candidates with access to specialist facilities, research resources and opportunities to present work at conferences. This is a PhD / Doctoral research program in physics and related sciences.
What you might learn
You will build mastery of advanced theoretical knowledge, critically reflect on its application, and investigate and synthesise complex concepts and problems. The course develops your ability to generate and evaluate abstract ideas, design and apply appropriate research methods, and communicate research plans and outcomes to specialist and broader audiences. You will conduct and disseminate original research that contributes to knowledge and/or professional practice in the physical sciences.
Career outcome
Graduates typically pursue research-focused careers in universities, government laboratories and industry, applying advanced physics expertise to complex technical problems. Roles may include research scientist, physicist, data/quantitative analyst, R&D specialist, instrumentation or laboratory lead, and technical consultant.
