About the course
Indigenous knowledge encompasses insights, innovations and practices developed by Indigenous peoples over generations, often grounded in deep relationships with natural surroundings. This interdisciplinary research program recognises and activates Indigenous knowledge across diverse fields such as health, education, law, agriculture and the arts, strengthening reciprocal learning with Indigenous communities. It is offered by the Indigenous Knowledge Institute in partnership with all faculties at the University of Melbourne and is positioned to support Indigenous candidates engaged in research and academia.

Students develop advanced research capability to investigate, articulate and extend Indigenous knowledge with integrity and purpose. The program builds interdisciplinary scholarship and supports deeper engagement with Indigenous communities through reciprocal learning approaches.
