About the course
This Doctor of Philosophy in Exploration Geophysics is a higher degree by research focused on producing an original contribution to knowledge through independent investigation. You’ll work under expert supervision, with most study devoted to research and a thesis, and may complete limited coursework where required. Curtin provides access to specialist resources and support for conference participation in geophysics research. The programme advances scientific inquiry through supervised laboratory or field research, data analysis, and thesis-based discovery.
What you might learn
You’ll develop expert theoretical knowledge and critical reflection, generate original research through systematic investigation, and apply advanced technical and professional skills. You will critique methodologies and conclusions, communicate complex research to specialist and general audiences, and design and deliver a substantial, original thesis that meets international examination standards in exploration geophysics.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research-intensive careers where advanced geophysical methods are applied to real-world problems. Typical pathways include research or technical specialist roles in mineral and energy exploration, environmental and engineering geophysics, and geoscience consulting, as well as academic and government research positions. This PhD supports leadership roles requiring independent, publishable research expertise in exploration geophysics. Preparing graduates for scientific research, R&D leadership, and doctoral study in the sciences.
