About the course
Deakin’s Doctor of Medicine prepares graduates for medical practice through extensive clinical training across Victoria, with a strong emphasis on rural and regional healthcare, Indigenous health and patient-centred communication. Students learn foundational medical sciences and clinical reasoning, undertake varied placements in hospitals, general practice and community settings, and can complete an overseas elective and pre-internship rotation. This is a four-year, full-time doctoral programme in Medicine.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for a wide range of medical careers, supported by substantial workplace learning and clinical placements across multiple settings and specialties. The degree builds skills for internship and subsequent pathways in areas such as general practice, hospital medicine and specialist training, with experience particularly relevant to rural and regional health services. This supports progression into medical practitioner roles following required registration steps in Medicine.
