About the course
This PhD develops advanced, independent research capability in global, urban and social studies within the humanities and social sciences. You will undertake an original research project supported by expert supervision, building high-level skills in research design, critical analysis, and scholarly communication. The program is delivered on campus at RMIT’s Melbourne City campus and is suited to research tackling contemporary social and urban challenges in Sociology & Social Work.
Career outcome
Graduates pursue research-led careers where advanced social inquiry and analysis are valued. Outcomes commonly include academic and postdoctoral research roles, policy and program analysis in government, urban and community development work, and research positions in think tanks, NGOs and consultancies. The degree also supports specialist careers in evaluation, social impact and strategic advisory roles, grounded in rigorous methods from Sociology & Social Work.
