About the course
JCU’s Bachelor of Social Work prepares you to support individuals, families, groups and communities and to advocate for social justice and wellbeing. You’ll study social welfare practice, human behaviour and the social and cultural factors shaping disadvantage, alongside issues such as crime and deviance. A key feature is extensive supervised professional learning, including 1000 hours of placement. This is an undergraduate degree in social work. The programme explores human behaviour, research methods, and applied psychology for community and organisational settings.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles in community and social services across government, non-government and health-related organisations. Typical work includes case management, family and child support, community development, advocacy, youth services and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The degree’s substantial placement experience supports readiness for professional practice and supervised graduate entry roles. This is an undergraduate pathway into social work careers.
