About the course

This Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) provides comprehensive, hands-on veterinary training from day one, using purpose-built teaching and clinical facilities. Students develop animal handling and clinical skills through practical learning, rotations and external placements, including at the Greencross Veterinary Hospital at the Werribee campus. The program is designed for graduates seeking veterinary registration in Australia and internationally, with recognition pathways aligned to Australian, UK and North American accreditation expectations.

What you might learn

The course aims to develop competent, practice-ready veterinarians with strong clinical reasoning, diagnostic and procedural skills across a range of species. Students progressively build capability through applied training, clinical rotations and supervised placements, culminating in a lecture-free final year focused on immersive clinical practice. In the final year, species-based tracking supports deeper expertise aligned to career interests in equine, production animal or small animal practice.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue registration as veterinarians across Australia and New Zealand and are eligible for registration in the UK, with the option to sit the licensing exam required for practice in North America. Career pathways include clinical veterinary practice in small animal, equine or production animal settings, as well as roles in animal health and welfare. Opportunities may also extend to emergency and critical care, industry placements, and other animal health-related sectors supported by clinical and professional networking experiences during the degree.

Entry requirements

IELTS 7.0 with writing 7.0 and no other band less than 6.0. Access Melbourne entry scheme is available.
