About the course
This Master of Philosophy (Health Studies) is a research degree that develops advanced research capability in applied health disciplines. You will undertake a supervised research project and thesis, supported by Curtin’s industry-linked research strengths. Study areas can include drug and alcohol research, human communication science, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy practice, physiotherapy, public health and social work. The programme advances health sciences research through evidence-based inquiry, clinical context, and supervised thesis development.
What you might learn
You’ll develop mastery of relevant theory and critically apply it, analyse and synthesise complex health-related problems, and generate and evaluate abstract ideas. You will design and apply appropriate research methods, build a sustained scholarly argument, and communicate research plans and findings to peers, the research community and the public, producing an original contribution to health knowledge and/or practice.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue research-focused and evidence-based roles across health services, community and public health, academia and research institutes. The degree supports pathways into HDR/PhD study, research assistant or research officer positions, and specialist roles contributing to policy, clinical practice improvement and program evaluation. Outcomes will align with your thesis area within health studies. Preparing graduates for health research, clinical leadership, and doctoral study in nursing and health sciences.
Entry requirements
Relevant degree with a semester weighted average (SWA) of 70% or better (or equivalent). Applicants below 70% or outside the intended research area may need bridging units.
