About the course
The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) is a postgraduate research degree that builds advanced research capability through supervised independent study. You complete research training coursework early in the program, then undertake a substantial thesis (around 40,000 words or equivalent) guided by at least two supervisors. The degree develops proposal writing, methodology, literature review and data analysis skills, culminating in an original research contribution in law.

Graduates develop high-level research, analysis and academic writing skills suited to research-focused careers. Outcomes commonly include pathways to PhD study, policy and advisory roles, research assistant or analyst positions, and roles requiring rigorous evidence-based investigation in government, NGOs, and industry.
