About the course
The Master of Philosophy (Chemistry) is a higher degree by research that builds advanced knowledge beyond honours or a postgraduate diploma through an original research thesis. Most of the program is dedicated to independent research supported by supervisors, with limited coursework where required. Graduates may be eligible to apply for entry into a PhD program, progressing research expertise in chemistry and related sciences. The programme advances scientific inquiry through supervised laboratory or field research, data analysis, and thesis-based discovery.
Career outcome
Graduates develop advanced research capability to work in research-led roles across universities, government laboratories and industry. Typical pathways include research assistant/associate roles, laboratory scientist positions, analytical or materials-focused R&D, and progression to a PhD. The degree strengthens skills in research design, critical analysis and communicating findings for professional and academic settings in chemistry and scientific research. Preparing graduates for scientific research, R&D leadership, and doctoral study in the sciences.
