About the course

This postgraduate Petroleum Engineering major within the Master of Professional Engineering is designed for graduates of a four-year engineering degree that is not Engineers Australia accredited in a related discipline. It develops multidisciplinary technical knowledge across oil and gas exploration, drilling, production and operations for conventional and unconventional resources. You will also complete at least 12 weeks of engineering professional practice and a final-year research project in petroleum engineering at master’s level.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles across the resources sector and associated agencies, applying petroleum engineering expertise to field development and operations. Typical positions include reservoir engineer, drilling engineer and production/subsurface engineer. Employment may be found with oil and gas operators, engineering and service companies, and government or regulatory bodies.
