About the course
This two-year program builds capability in environmental policy and sustainable development, preparing you to address complex links between environmental change and human wellbeing. Offered through ANU’s Crawford School of Public Policy, it combines policy-focused theory with practical approaches applicable in Australia and the Asia-Pacific. Study areas include climate change, biodiversity, governance, resource management and social impact analysis, supported by a wide range of electives across ANU.
What you might learn
You will develop analytical and research skills for environmental management and development practice, including policy analysis, research methods and environmental economics. The program strengthens your ability to evaluate sustainability trade-offs, design and assess interventions, and work across governance settings. Learning is supported through core public policy preparation, specialised environment and development coursework, and options such as research projects, internships or study tours.
Career outcome
Graduates are suited to roles in environmental policy, sustainability and development across government, NGOs, international agencies and consulting. Opportunities include policy analyst/adviser, sustainability or climate change officer, environmental governance specialist, impact assessment and evaluation practitioner, and resource management roles spanning water, fisheries, forests and land. The degree supports careers working on climate policy, conservation, food security and development programs in Australia and the region.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have a recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent) with at least GPA 5/7; or a Bachelor with GPA 4/7 plus either 3 years full-time equivalent relevant professional experience at ANZSCO Skill Level 1, or a relevant Graduate Certificate (GPA 4/7). Entry is also available with a Graduate Diploma (GPA 4/7) or approved postgraduate study (48 units) with GPA 4/7.
