About the course

The Master of Environmental Management and Development prepares you to work on environmental policy and sustainable development challenges linking environmental change and human wellbeing. Delivered by ANU’s Crawford School of Public Policy, it combines policy-focused theory with applied learning. You can tailor study through electives and topics such as climate change, biodiversity, food security, environmental governance and resource management across Australia and the Asia-Pacific.

What you might learn

You will develop skills to analyse environmental and development problems and design practical policy responses. The program builds capability in research methods, economics for public policy, environmental governance and sustainability approaches, supported by strong academic and professional communication skills. Through electives you can deepen expertise in areas such as climate policy, impact evaluation, resource management, political ecology, or undertake research, internships or field-based study tours.

Graduates may work in government agencies, international organisations, NGOs, consultancies and industry roles focused on sustainability and environmental governance. Entry requirements

Applicants typically need a recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline. Admission may consider academic performance and, where applicable, relevant professional experience. Credit or exemptions may be available for prior study and relevant work experience, subject to assessment.
