About the course

The Master of Environmental Science focuses on scientifically rigorous approaches to tackling major environmental challenges including air, water and land contamination, climate change, energy transition, conservation and ecosystem management, and food security. Students develop technical capability alongside professional skills in communication, policy, planning and ethical business studies. The course includes a substantial academic or industry-based research project, with options for internships or field-based learning.

What you might learn

Students build advanced environmental science expertise, including risk assessment techniques and evidence-based problem-solving for complex environmental systems. The course aims to develop the ability to communicate scientific ideas effectively and to apply interdisciplinary knowledge across technical, policy and planning contexts. Graduates are prepared to design and deliver research or industry projects that address real-world environmental problems.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue roles addressing environmental challenges across government, consulting and not-for-profit organisations. Career paths may include environmental consultant, environmental scientist, risk or contamination assessment specialist, sustainability or conservation advisor, and roles supporting climate and energy-transition initiatives. The major industry or academic research project (and optional internship/field subjects) supports job readiness and applied experience.
