About the course

The ANU Master of Energy Change is an interdisciplinary program focused on the global transition to carbon-free energy systems. You can tailor study to your interests while building understanding across policy, law, technology, regulation and environmental dimensions of energy transition. The degree combines core courses with electives drawn from multiple disciplines to address real-world climate and energy challenges in a Masters-level Environmental Science program.

What you might learn

Students develop an integrated understanding of how energy systems are changing and what is required to enable decarbonisation. The program builds knowledge in renewable energy resources and technologies, climate and environmental problem-solving, and the policy, legal and economic settings that shape energy transition. You will strengthen analytical and interdisciplinary skills to evaluate options, communicate evidence and design solutions in a Masters-level Environmental Science context.

Career outcome

Graduates may pursue roles across government, consultancy, utilities, renewables, NGOs and international organisations working on energy transition and climate strategy. Career paths can include energy or climate policy adviser, sustainability and ESG specialist, renewable energy project or program officer, environmental analyst, or regulatory and governance roles. The program supports professional work at the interface of environment, technology and policy in a Masters-level Environmental Science field.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 5.0/7.0. They also need at least 8 courses in a cognate discipline with a cognate GPA of at least 5.0/7.0 (the best 8 cognate courses may be used for assessment). Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. Admission is competitive, so meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee entry.
