About the course
The Diploma of Legal Studies is a pathway qualification that builds foundational knowledge in legal and justice studies. Students develop introductory skills in legal research and writing while learning about the Australian legal system, criminal process, family law, contract law and legal ethics. Delivered through SCU College with structured support, it can also provide up to eight units of credit toward further law-related study at diploma/undergraduate level in Law. The programme introduces legal documentation, office procedures, and foundational legal knowledge for support roles.
Career outcome
This diploma provides an entry-level foundation for roles that support legal and justice work, and for progression into further study in law and justice disciplines. Graduates may seek administrative and support positions in legal practices, government or community organisations, and justice-related settings where legal research, writing and knowledge of core legal areas are valuable. It is primarily designed as a Diploma pathway into further qualifications in Law. Preparing graduates for legal clerk, paralegal support, and compliance assistant roles, or degree articulation.
