About the course
Designed for registered nurses seeking to qualify as midwives, UniSQ’s Graduate Diploma of Midwifery blends flexible study with extensive supervised professional practice. You’ll build capability across diverse maternity care contexts, including First Nations health and human rights, and develop skills for high-level autonomous clinical decision-making. The program includes residential schools and substantial clinical placement to meet Graduate Diploma-level preparation in Nursing.

To graduate from the Graduate Diploma of Midwifery, you must successfully complete 8 units of study.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for midwifery roles across maternity hospitals, clinics and primary care settings. Career opportunities include working in birth suites, antenatal and postnatal services, neonatal units, family planning and community health, including rural and regional contexts. The program is accredited by ANMAC and supports eligibility to apply for registration with AHPRA as a midwife, consistent with Graduate Diploma-level practice in Nursing. Preparing graduates for clinical leadership, health management, and advanced nursing or allied health specialist roles.
