About the course
This graduate certificate provides students with advanced expertise and specialised knowledge in forensic nursing and midwifery. You will investigate contemporary issues in Australian health law and ethics and the role of health professionals in the assessment of cases of physical and sexual assault. You will gain knowledge of the Australian legal system, laws of evidence, the classification of injuries and forensic responsibilities arising from physical injury and sexual assault. You will gain skills in the preparation of a medico-legal report and giving evidence in court proceedings.
Career outcome
Graduates may support or advance practice in forensic and medicolegal aspects of nursing and midwifery across hospitals, sexual assault services and related community or justice-linked health settings. Skills gained can assist with roles involving clinical assessment and documentation, evidence-informed reporting, and liaison with legal processes, including preparation of medico-legal reports and court testimony support.
