About the course
The Graduate Diploma of Economics is a one-year full-time program designed for graduates seeking a solid grounding in modern economic analysis. It builds capability in core microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and quantitative methods, and suits students whose careers require economic reasoning. The qualification can also serve as a pathway into more advanced economics study.
What you might learn
Students develop foundational competence in economic theory and applied quantitative analysis. The program strengthens skills in microeconomic and macroeconomic modelling, statistical and mathematical techniques, optimisation, and econometric methods. Graduates learn to interpret data, construct and evaluate economic arguments, and apply analytical tools to policy, business and financial decision-making contexts.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for roles requiring economic and quantitative analysis across government, public policy, central banking, consulting, and industry. Typical pathways include economist or analyst roles, economic policy support, research assistance, and positions in finance and business that rely on interpreting markets and data. The program also supports progression to further postgraduate study in economics.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have either a Bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 4.0/7.0, or at least 10 years of work experience in an ANZSCO Skill Level 1 role. Applicants must also meet ANU English language requirements. Entry is competitive; meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission and selection may consider GPA-based ranking and other factors.
