About the course
This Certificate III develops practical skills and technical knowledge for work in the marine service and repair industry. You’ll train across a variety of vessels, learning to diagnose, service and repair inboard and outboard engines, transmissions, and propulsion systems, plus related electrical and ignition systems. Training is hands-on in industry-standard workshops and supports trade qualification outcomes when completed through an apprenticeship in marine mechanical technology. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.

Graduates can work in marine service and repair settings supporting the maintenance of boats and marine equipment. Typical roles include marine mechanic, marine technician, and marine serviceperson, carrying out diagnostics, servicing, and repairs on engines, propulsion systems, and related mechanical and electrical components. This Certificate III pathway supports employment and progression within the marine mechanical technology trade.
