About the course

This apprenticeship course provides entry-level skills for work in the engineering mechanical trade. You’ll develop hands-on capability across mechanical equipment and machinery tasks such as assembly, manufacture, installation, testing, fault finding, commissioning and maintenance. Training also introduces fluid power systems and instruments, plus experience with computer-controlled equipment including CNC machine tools. This Certificate III qualification prepares you for practical mechanical engineering trade work.

Career outcome

Graduates can enter the engineering industry in practical mechanical trade roles. Typical outcomes include CNC operator, metal fitter, fitter and turner, mechanical fitter, maintenance mechanic, fluid power mechanic, metal machinist (first class), and tool and die maker/toolmaker. The qualification supports employment across manufacturing, machining and maintenance settings, and can also provide a pathway to further training in the mechanical engineering trade at Certificate III level.
