About the course
This apprenticeship-focused Certificate III builds trade skills for surface finishing within engineering fabrication. You’ll learn to modify and protect manufactured surfaces to achieve required properties such as improved appearance and adhesion, altered hardness and friction, and better electrical conductivity. Training also covers treatments that resist corrosion, tarnish, wear and chemicals to improve durability, supported by industry-expert teachers. The programme focuses on applied engineering drawings, workshop skills, and technical maintenance competencies.
Career outcome
Graduates can work as trade-qualified surface finishers in the engineering fabrication sector, supporting repair and maintenance, component restoration, and bespoke product development. The skills apply across workshops and manufacturing environments where surface treatments are used to enhance durability and performance. This Certificate III pathway supports entry to surface finishing roles in engineering and ongoing progression within fabrication trade work. Preparing graduates for engineering technician, draftsperson, and technical service roles, or degree articulation.
