About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing is a 50 credit-point course delivered through a blended model of online learning and work-integrated learning in a paediatric intensive care environment. It builds a sound understanding of the theoretical knowledge and scientific advances that underpin the management of paediatric patients requiring specialist critical care. Students apply paediatric and critical care nursing knowledge in clinical practice to demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex care requirements.
What you might learn
Students develop advanced clinical decision-making and specialist knowledge to manage critically ill paediatric patients with complex needs. The course strengthens the ability to integrate contemporary evidence, scientific advances and theory into practice through guided clinical supervision in the workplace. It aims to build confidence as a capable member of a multidisciplinary paediatric intensive care team while maintaining flexibility for working registered nurses.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to work as registered nurses with enhanced specialist capability in paediatric intensive care and other acute paediatric critical care settings. The qualification supports progression into more advanced clinical roles within PICU/critical care teams, where nurses manage complex patients and contribute to multidisciplinary care delivery. It may also support broader career development in paediatric acute care services requiring critical care expertise.
Entry requirements
