About the course
This graduate certificate builds foundational knowledge of global environmental and climate crises and the sustainability challenges driving them. You’ll develop practical skills to create strategic responses and positive change at local, national and global levels, with a strong focus on professional practice. Industry and government-led learning, plus engagement with Curtin’s Legacy Living Laboratory (L3), supports applied skills in research, analysis and stakeholder engagement in environmental science.
What you might learn
Develop skills to apply sustainability and planetary health concepts, use critical and analytical approaches, and find and synthesise reliable information on sustainability issues. You’ll build communication capability for diverse audiences using appropriate technologies, apply effective learning strategies, and translate international good practice to local contexts. The course also emphasises working with multicultural and Indigenous perspectives and demonstrating leadership within sustainability practice.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared to support organisations responding to climate and sustainability challenges, often working alongside or as environment and sustainability consultants. Skills gained are applicable across public and private sectors where sustainability practices are embedded into operations and decision-making. Typical opportunities span urban and environmental planning, government and regional development, construction and engineering projects, conservation and land use, and resources, energy and transport-related sustainability roles in environmental science.
