About the course

From January 2025, the Bachelor of Science (Extended) is a redesigned 3.5-year pathway-style science degree with an undergraduate exit Diploma in Science after Year 1. It is designed exclusively for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are interested in science but have not had the opportunity to meet the standard Bachelor of Science entry requirements. Students access the full breadth of Bachelor of Science subject choices alongside built-in academic skills development, mentoring, and support services.

What you might learn

The course aims to build students’ academic foundations and confidence in a chosen science discipline during the first year, supported by a discipline mentor and tailored skills development. It prepares students to meet prerequisites and transition into the broader Bachelor of Science from Year 2, enabling selection from a wide range of majors. The program also aims to strengthen readiness for further study and professional pathways through mentoring, industry exposure, and structured support.

Career outcome

Graduates who continue into the Bachelor of Science can pursue careers across science, technology, engineering, mathematics and related health and environmental sectors depending on their chosen major. The program also supports employability through academic and peer mentoring, leadership opportunities, volunteering and internships. Students who exit after Year 1 may graduate with a Diploma in Science, supporting entry-level roles that value foundational scientific knowledge and transferable skills.

Entry requirements

Guaranteed ATAR 2026: 65.00. This course is available to domestic students only. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who receive an ATAR score of more than 50 are encouraged to apply. Access Melbourne is available. English language requirement: IELTS 6.5 (with no band less than 6.0).
