About the course
This master’s program builds advanced skills in the scientific methods used to analyse biodiversity and make evidence-based conservation decisions. You’ll learn from leading conservation scientists and engage with UQ facilities and field sites, exploring biodiversity, environmental philosophy, conservation policy and systematic decision-making. The intensive structure supports completion in 18 months, with options to follow coursework-only or add a substantial research project in conservation science.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue roles applying quantitative science and policy knowledge to protect biodiversity and manage ecosystems. Career paths include conservation scientist or ecologist, biodiversity or environmental consultant, conservation planner, policy/advisory roles in government or NGOs, and positions with parks, marine and wildlife organisations. The program also provides a strong pathway into further research or specialist work in conservation science at master’s level. Preparing graduates for research scientist, laboratory leadership, and specialist technical roles in the sciences.
