About the course
The Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) is an additional year of undergraduate study for eligible University of Sydney Bachelor of Medical Science graduates. You will extend prior learning through a supervised but independent research project, supported by training in experimental design and selected coursework units. The course builds research capability and specialist expertise valued in both academia and industry within biomedical science. The programme develops laboratory techniques, scientific writing, and analytical methods for research and industry settings.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue research-focused roles in universities, medical research institutes and the biomedical industry, applying skills in research design, data collection and analysis, and scientific communication. The honours year can also strengthen pathways into further research training (such as higher degrees by research) or competitive roles in laboratories, clinical research support, and health and biotechnology-related organisations.
