About the course
UNSW’s Juris Doctor is a professional law degree designed for graduates from non-law backgrounds who want to qualify as a lawyer. You’ll build strong foundations in core areas of Australian law while developing legal reasoning, research, advocacy and problem-solving skills through practical, case-based learning. The program supports pathways to legal practice and is delivered as a postgraduate professional qualification in Law. The programme develops legal research methodology, scholarly writing, and critical analysis for advanced professional and academic legal practice.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue legal practice and related roles across private firms, government and the not-for-profit sector. Typical pathways include solicitor or barrister roles (subject to professional requirements), legal policy and regulatory work, corporate and commercial advisory positions, in-house counsel support roles, and compliance or risk functions.
