About the course
The Doctor of Clinical Surgery combines advanced clinical and non-clinical coursework with a substantial research component to develop surgical leaders. Designed to be undertaken alongside Royal Australasian College of Surgeons training, it strengthens research capability, communication and leadership for specialist surgical practice. Students complete supervised clinical training in accredited hospitals plus a thesis and capstone. This is a PhD/Doctoral programme in Medicine.
Career outcome
Graduates are equipped for advanced specialist surgical practice and leadership roles, supported by strengthened research skills and evidence-based clinical decision-making. The programme prepares candidates to contribute to surgical innovation, quality improvement, education and clinical governance within hospitals and health systems, often alongside formal surgical training pathways. It can also support future academic and clinician-researcher careers through completion of a thesis. This is a PhD/Doctoral qualification in Medicine.
