About the course

This Undergraduate Certificate introduces the foundational skills and knowledge used by urban and regional planning practitioners. It is designed as an entry pathway into planning study and may provide credit for the four completed units toward Curtin’s Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning. Students develop an understanding of planning concepts, communication and problem-solving approaches relevant to early paraprofessional work in the built environment. The programme combines engineering fundamentals, design projects, and industry-ready technical problem-solving skills.

What you might learn

You’ll learn to apply core urban and regional planning principles across different contexts, use critical and creative problem-solving to develop solutions, and communicate planning ideas to both specialist and non-specialist audiences using appropriate technologies. You’ll also consider global planning perspectives and standards, incorporate Indigenous values and perspectives, and build professional skills for working independently and in teams.

Career outcome

Graduates gain introductory capabilities suited to entry-level support roles in planning-related settings and a pathway into further study. The course builds skills in planning concepts, communication and technology use, teamwork, and problem solving that are relevant to work with local government, planning consultancies, community and development projects, and built-environment organisations. This Undergraduate Certificate supports progression toward professional planning qualifications in urban and regional planning.
