This short AMSA-approved refresher supports seafarers who hold an AMSA-issued Certificate of Proficiency as Rating to meet continued competency requirements. It refreshes mandatory Sea Survival and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting competencies and includes relevant elements from the STCW Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (non-fast rescue boats) refresher. It may also suit holders of certain overseas certificates seeking STCW continued competence training in a short, on-campus format. The programme develops discipline knowledge and graduate capabilities aligned with its qualification level.
Career outcome
This refresher helps current seafarers maintain eligibility for revalidation by updating core STCW safety competencies required for ongoing work at sea. It supports continued competence for Integrated Rating, Able Seaman, Deck Rating and Engine Room Rating pathways, strengthening readiness for vessel safety duties such as survival techniques, fire response and operating survival craft.
