About the course

This postgraduate Midwifery Screening, Diagnostics and Prescribing specialisation is a four-unit sequence that can be taken within the Master of Advanced Practice or as a standalone graduate certificate. It is designed for experienced midwives seeking to extend capability in screening, diagnostic and pharmacological procedures and to meet requirements for endorsed midwife status. The specialisation is delivered online part-time over one year in nursing/midwifery practice. The programme develops health sciences knowledge and practice skills aligned with its qualification level.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue endorsement as a midwife and broaden their scope across public services or private practice. The specialisation supports eligibility to apply for AHPRA endorsement, access relevant insurance arrangements, and seek Medicare and PBS provider/prescriber numbers (subject to requirements). Career outcomes include expanded antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care roles, ordering appropriate tests and ultrasounds, prescribing within scope, and making referrals within maternity care pathways in nursing/midwifery.
