About the course
Flinders’ Maritime Archaeology postgraduate program combines theory with extensive practical training in maritime and underwater archaeology. You’ll build field-ready skills through field schools and projects, and use contemporary digital tools such as 3D recording, marine geophysics and conservation methods. Study shipwrecks and submerged landscapes with support from internationally recognised specialists, with an option to train as a Scientific Diver. This is postgraduate study in maritime archaeology.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue growing opportunities in underwater cultural heritage and maritime archaeology in Australia and internationally. Roles may include maritime archaeologist, heritage manager, museum content specialist, heritage or environmental consultant, park ranger, or higher education professional. Employment is commonly found with independent archaeological consultancies, government and heritage agencies, museums, academic institutions, public service bodies, and wildlife services and sanctuaries. This is postgraduate preparation for maritime archaeology careers.
