About the course

Murdoch’s Master of Counselling prepares you for professional counselling practice by building advanced personal and professional skills and strong therapeutic relationships with clients. You’ll integrate theory and research with extensive practical training, including two supervised placements. In the second year you can choose a substantial research project or complete the course through coursework and case studies, supported by experienced counselling staff.

Career outcome

Graduates may work across government and non-government counselling services supporting adults, children, families and couples. The degree prepares you for roles requiring individual and group therapy skills and practice in varied community settings. Typical pathways include counsellor, psychotherapist, caseworker, support worker and broader mental health professional roles in community, health and wellbeing organisations. Preparing graduates for organisational psychology, counselling support, human services, and specialist practitioner pathways.
