About the course
Language is a critical part of our identity and culture. English has become a global language, and as such, the demand for English language programs is strong across the world. Literacy and numeracy skills are needed by everyone to negotiate their life, in study, work and life in the community. Programs for adults who wishing to develop their literacy and numeracy are also in high demand. Teaching English as an additional language and/ or literacy and numeracy is a career based on social justice principles.
Career outcome
You’ll have the choice of preparing to work in primary or secondary schools, private English language colleges, or adult education colleges. Alternatively, you may be teaching academic English to international students in Australia or overseas to help them gain admission into and succeed in courses where English is the language of instruction. With the breadth of knowledge you’ll gain in the field, you may also consider a research career in the field of English language, literacy or numeracy education, especially if you have experience working in the field.
