About the course
The Master of Teaching (Secondary) prepares graduates to teach 12–18-year-olds by combining evidence-based education theory with extensive, well-supported school placements. Students learn from education experts with school teaching experience and build practical classroom capability through a comprehensive placement program. The course emphasises understanding and supporting individual learning needs across diverse student backgrounds and abilities.
What you might learn
Students develop the knowledge and practical skills to plan, teach and assess effectively across secondary years, informed by contemporary education research and practice. The course builds capability in creating safe, inclusive learning environments, promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing, and responding to diverse learning needs. It also strengthens understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives to support culturally responsive teaching.
Career outcome
Graduates can pursue careers as secondary school teachers across a range of learning areas and year levels, with preparation to teach two learning areas and exposure to a third to broaden employability. The qualification supports eligibility to register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT), enabling teaching across all secondary years. Career pathways include roles in secondary education settings and related education support and leadership pathways as experience grows.
