About the course

The Master of Teaching (Early Childhood and Primary) prepares graduates for dual registration to teach in early childhood settings (0–5 years) and across all primary years (5–12 years) as a generalist teacher. The course integrates contemporary educational theory with sustained professional practice from the first semester, supported by mentoring and clinical guidance. It also emphasises inclusive practice, Indigenous perspectives, wellbeing and positive learning environments, and sustainable approaches to education.

What you might learn

Students develop the knowledge and practical skills to design and deliver high-impact learning across early childhood and primary curricula, including strengths in literacy and mathematics. The program builds capability to assess and support diverse learners over time, creating safe and supportive environments that promote positive behaviour and wellbeing. It also aims to strengthen culturally responsive teaching through engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being, and to build confidence for future leadership in educational communities.

Career outcome

Graduates can pursue registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) to work as teachers in early childhood settings and primary schools. The qualification also supports careers in children’s services coordination, early childhood research, policy development, quality regulation, assessment, and early intervention roles for children with additional needs. The dual focus broadens employment opportunities across both early years and primary education sectors.
