About the course
This advanced master’s program extends prior study in trauma-informed psychotherapy by adding a supervised research component. Designed for clinicians and mental health professionals, you’ll develop the capability to plan, conduct and report a substantial research project aligned to psychotherapy practice. Delivered at Westmead with face-to-face and online options (for eligible students), it builds advanced research skills within a Master of Science in Medicine (Advanced) focused on psychotherapy.
Career outcome
Graduates can apply advanced research and evaluation skills to trauma-informed and psychodynamic psychotherapy contexts, supporting evidence-based clinical practice and service improvement. The degree can strengthen pathways into clinician-researcher roles, research assistant/officer positions, quality and outcomes evaluation, and further higher-degree research. It is particularly relevant for professionals working across mental health services, multidisciplinary clinical teams and psychotherapy practice, as a master’s qualification in psychology-aligned trauma-informed psychotherapy.
