About the course
This research-focused Master of Science (Environmental Science) develops advanced expertise in a chosen environmental science topic through sustained, supervised research. Guided by experienced researchers in Deakin’s Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment, you build integrated knowledge in your discipline and complete at least one coursework unit. You will produce a substantial thesis (up to 50,000 words) that contributes to knowledge in environmental science at master’s level.
Career outcome
Graduates are prepared for research and specialist roles addressing sustainability and environmental management challenges. The degree supports pathways into environmental research, consultancy and advisory work, government and regulatory agencies, and roles in industry and NGOs where evidence-based environmental decision-making is required. The substantial thesis and supervised research experience can also provide a foundation for further research training or doctoral study in environmental science at master’s research level.
