About the course
ECU’s Master of Science by Research is an AQF Level 9 research degree that builds advanced expertise in a chosen science discipline while developing robust research methods. You will undertake a substantial independent investigation and produce a thesis with relevance to areas such as biological and environmental sciences, sustainability, analytical chemistry, physics, data science or mathematics. This is a masters by research in Sciences. The programme advances scientific inquiry through supervised laboratory or field research, data analysis, and thesis-based discovery.

Graduates are prepared for research-focused roles in universities, government and industry, applying advanced scientific inquiry, analysis and project management skills developed through a major thesis. Pathways can include research assistant/associate positions, specialist roles in environmental and laboratory settings, or progression to doctoral study.
