About the course
Develop advanced research capability in applied physics through an independent, supervised research project. You’ll investigate a specialised topic, build strong experimental or theoretical skills, and contribute original knowledge in your chosen area. The program is designed for students aiming to progress to higher research or research-intensive roles, culminating in a thesis in applied physics at master’s by research level. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.
Career outcome
Graduates may pursue research-focused careers in laboratories, advanced manufacturing, materials and photonics, defence, or government and industry R&D, as well as roles supporting instrumentation and scientific analysis. The degree can also provide a pathway to further research study such as a PhD. Outcomes align with master’s by research preparation for professional and academic work in applied physics and related sciences. Preparing graduates for research scientist, laboratory leadership, and specialist technical roles in the sciences.
