About the course
The Master of Research - SMAH (Biological Sciences) builds advanced research capability through a structured first year of research training and coursework, followed by a substantial thesis in the second year. You’ll complete 96 credit points, including a 48 credit point thesis examined by two external experts. The program supports progression toward a research career within the biological sciences in a Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health context. The programme deepens scientific methodology, data interpretation, and applied research skills for laboratory and field-based careers.

Graduates are prepared for research-focused pathways in laboratories, universities, government and industry, applying rigorous research methods, analysis and scholarly communication. The degree can support progression to PhD study and roles such as research assistant/associate, laboratory scientist, research coordinator or policy and technical roles where evidence-based investigation is required.
